Mock Lessons
Science Lesson: Lava Lamp
-
Objectives: Students will get to make a Lava Lamp and learn the chemistry behind how this reaction works.
-
Students will get to combine vegetable oil, food coloring, and antacid tablets and watch their lava lamps activate in real time.
-
Following the experiment, we will discuss with the group how their actions created the lamp as well as the scientific connections to Chemistry.
Math Lesson: Probability through Candy
-
Objectives: Students will learn the basics through real-life examples of probability.
-
Students will be able to determine the odds of an event occurring by picking colored candies and noting the likelihood of selecting certain ones.
-
Our end goal is for students to be able to calculate these odds through basic math and expand on the schoolwork already established.
Computer Science Lesson: Scratch
-
Objectives: Students will be able to code a mini-game in Scratch.
-
In preparation for coding a mini-game, students will learn the basic functions of Scratch in each weekly class.
